Halva-disguised hash a sweet find for police

A man has been arrested in Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, on suspicion of smuggling large amounts of hashish into Greece disguised as the sweet confection halva. Police said yesterday that they had taken a 35-year-old Iranian man into custody after drug squad officers in Patra caught him in possesion of a 4.5-kilo shipment of hashish. According to Patra Police Chief Athanassios Davlouras, the drug was of a very high quality. In an effort to disguise it as a sweet, the smuggler had covered the drug in halva and sprinkled it with walnuts. The suspect was arrested after undercover officers arranged a meeting with him to buy hashish. The Iranian allegedly offered them 2.5 kilos of the drug and was arrested. Officers discovered the other 2 kilos during a search of his house. Police said that they intend to make further arrests in connection to the case.
