Quality of bathing waters…

The flags of Greece and the European Union flutter at a beach in Athens yesterday. Only Lithuania and Cyprus can boast cleaner beaches than Greece, according to the annual results of the European Commission and the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) report on the quality of bathing waters in member states. The survey, which was published in June, indicated that 97.7 percent of the Greek beaches that were inspected in 2008 complied with EU standards as far as the cleanliness of the water where people swim is concerned. More than 2,000 Greek beaches were tested as part of the survey.
