Special vessels which collect rubbish from the sea in the Thermaic Gulf had to be sent out yesterday after seaweed, branches and various other debris washed up on the shores of the northern city of Thessaloniki. Local authorities said that the pollution appeared to have been swept up by high winds and undersea currents.
