More action on swine flu
Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos yesterday heralded the creation of three new state-backed expert committees to bolster the government’s action plan for tackling a possible swine flu pandemic in Greece. Speaking after a session of a committee set up to coordinate the state’s response to the threat posed by the H1N1 virus, Avramopoulos said three new subcommittees would be created – one setting out a «code of conduct,» the second for monitoring the spread of the virus and a third for overseeing the operation of hospitals and clinics dealing with swine flu patients. The minister reassured citizens that hospitals and local authorities had been briefed and were on standby but added that the development and spread of the virus could not be predicted with any accuracy. «The swine flu phenomenon is as unpredictable as quicksand,» he said.
