Samos officers seize large haul of heroin

Customs officers on the eastern Aegean island of Samos have revealed that they seized almost 7 kilos of heroin from two visitors who had hidden the drugs in their luggage. Authorities said on Saturday that a 19-year-old Estonian man was arrested the previous night after arriving on a ferry from the Turkish resort of Kusadasi. Just under 2 kilos of heroin was found hidden in a secret compartment in his suitcase. The following morning, a 26-year-old Lithuanian woman was taken into custody at Samos port following her arrival from Kusadasi and the discovery of 5 kilos of the drug in her luggage. Officers said drug dealers often use the tactic of sending a small shipment first, to see if it is detected, before dispatching a larger one, so they had been on high alert on Saturday. The two suspects insist they do not know each other.
