Post-election casualty

Homemade firework blamed A 59-year-old man was killed in the small town of Varda, in the Peloponnesian prefecture of Ileia, during Sunday night’s election festivities after a homemade firework exploded in his hands, it emerged yesterday. The man, a father of two, had been celebrating the landslide victory of socialist PASOK with friends when the device, made chiefly of dynamite, detonated. The man died of his injuries while he was being transferred to a hospital in Patra. There were no reports of any other injuries. Road fatality A 23-year-old motorist was killed in the early hours yesterday when he lost control of his car and crashed into cordoned-off roadworks on the Kerdyllia junction of the Egnatia Odos near Serres, in northern Greece. It was unclear what caused the accident.
