One of our helicopter engines is missing

Police and Air Force officials were working together yesterday in a bid to trace the thieves who removed the engine of a Super Puma rescue helicopter from the grounds of the old Athens airport at Hellenikon in eastern Attica at some point over the weekend. The unusual theft, which occurred on a site that is guarded by Air Force personnel, came to light only yesterday morning. The engine was removed from a large warehouse used for the storage and repair of Air Force equipment including Super Puma helicopters. An internal investigation has been launched to determine whether any of the personnel on duty at the site over the weekend should be held responsible in connection with the theft. In the meantime, the head of the Air Force General Staff, Lt Gen Vassileios Klokozas, ordered the suspension of the director of the State Aircraft Factory, which is responsible for maintaining Air Force helicopters and aircraft.
