Policeman convicted for surfing child porn

A Thessaloniki court handed down a suspended three-year jail sentence to a 43-year-old policeman after finding him guilty of visiting Internet sites with pornographic photographs featuring children. Officers of the national electronic crime unit who inspected the policeman’s office computer concluded that the suspect had entered several websites containing hardcore pornographic material featuring children. It is thought that the 43-year-old had also exchanged some material over the Internet, possibly in exchange for money. A subsequent search of the policeman’s home unearthed several computer hard drives and CDs containing pornographic photographs featuring children, police said. The 43-year-old, who did not appear in court, was fined 50,000 euros in addition to the suspended jail sentence. It was unclear whether he had been suspended from his post.
