Officer held for firing gun during dispute

A 41-year-old policeman who is alleged to have fired his service revolver in the capital’s historic center while under the influence of alcohol, following a dispute with a Somalian woman believed to be a local prostitute, was suspended from the force yesterday. The officer, who was not named, is to face a string of charges including the violation of laws governing the use of firearms, insubordination and resisting arrest. He is alleged to have lashed out against his colleagues when they tried to take him in. A search of the suspect turned up a woman’s wig, a beret and the service revolver he is alleged to have fired. The 41-year-old has reportedly been involved in several violent incidents in the past with local African prostitutes, according to police who said that his record is tarnished with many disciplinary offenses.
