Private colleges…
Students raise their hands during a protest in central Athens yesterday. The demonstrators were opposing efforts to grant full recognition and operating licenses to private colleges that operate in Greece as franchises of foreign universities. The students fear that it will lead to state institutions being overlooked for funding and undermined by private colleges that are financially stronger. The government is currently examining the issue of whether to award the permits to the colleges but is under pressure from the European Union to recognize them.
