Winter Games…

John Furlong, the CEO of Vancouver’s Olympic Organizing Committee, carries a miner’s lantern containing the Olympic Flame out of the Panathenaic Stadium following a handover ceremony in Athens yesterday. After an eight-day trip around Greece, the flame will be flown to Canada for a 45,000-kilometer journey ahead of the Winter Games in February. The International Olympic Committee criticized Greece’s decision to allow disgraced hurdler Fani Halkia to take part in the Vancouver flame relay. Halkia is serving a doping ban after testing positive for steroids at the 2008 Beijing Games.
