Policeman held for prison drug dealing

A policeman alleged to have played a key role in a ring dealing drugs in several Attica prisons was suspended yesterday. The officer, who had been employed by the Attica police unit handling the transfer of detainees between court and prison, was being questioned yesterday along with two foreign nationals, one of whom had been in detention. All three are believed to have been members of a racket supplying heroin, cannabis and other drugs to inmates in several institutions. According to officers of the Greek Police’s internal affairs division, the sergeant allegedly helped ensure the transfer of the drugs into the jails. A search of the sergeant’s home turned up quantities of various drugs, cash and several cell phones. It is unclear what charges he will face.
