Prime Minister George Papandreou greets…

Prime Minister George Papandreou greets the press on the second day of a European Union summit in Brussels yesterday. Speaking after EU heads of state approved a joint statement calling on Turkey to ‘swiftly implement measures regarding [migrant] repatriation and border control,’ Papandreou stressed the importance of Turkey’s cooperation if illegal immigration is to be curbed. ‘The EU must help Turkey deal with the problem,’ he told reporters. Papandreou also reiterated Athens’s stance with Skopje, saying that EU accession talks cannot progress without a solution to the dispute regarding the use of the name Macedonia.
