‘Stage’…

Protesting workers whose public sector jobs are being scrapped by the new PASOK government march through central Athens yesterday. Hundreds joined yesterday’s rally, causing traffic congestion for several hours. The government’s decision to abolish a European Union-funded apprenticeship system known as ‘Stage’ has riled some 20,000 people who had benefited from the program. Authorities have said they will hire people to fill public sector vacancies through the Supreme Council for Personnel Selection (ASEP) from now on.
