Extremists active in Athens, Thessaloniki

Two homemade explosive devices placed outside a journalists’ pension fund in the Athens district of Neos Cosmos were destroyed in a controlled blast by police bomb disposal experts early on Saturday without any injuries being caused. Officers were sent to the scene after an anonymous caller warned private television station Alter that there would be an explosion outside the premises of TSPEATH. There had been no claim of responsibility for the attempted attack by late yesterday and it was unclear whether the protest might have been prompted by the government’s plans to overhaul the country’s bloated pension system. In Thessaloniki, a group called Anarchist Action claimed responsibility for a bloodless arson attack on a diplomatic vehicle belonging to the Albanian consulate on Saturday, declaring its opposition to the «state machine.»
