Greens go top for Christmas

Panathinaikos will lead Greece’s soccer Super League going into 2010, as the Greens managed a convincing win over PAS Giannina while Olympiakos lost 1-0 to Aris. The Reds yesterday suffered their first league defeat of the season in Thessaloniki, thanks to a goal from Javier Campora in the second half. The result left Olympiakos on 36 points after 15 games. Panathinaikos beat PAS 4-0 in Athens on Saturday with two of the goals coming from the league’s top scorer, Frenchman Djibril Cisse. The win means the Greens will close out the year with 38 points. Olympiakos and Panathinaikos are not due to play again until January 6. On Friday, Greece’s two leading sides found out who they will play next in European competition. The Reds were drawn against French side Bordeaux in the last 16 of the Champions League, while the Greens will have to face Italy’s Roma in the last 32 for the Europa League.
