Protesters gathered at a toll station in Afidnes, north of Athens, yesterday to draw attention to the recent hike in charges and introduction of more toll posts. The campaigners say that the changes, brought in at the start of October, are unfairly hitting locals who use the Athens-Lamia national road to go about their daily business because local roads are poorly maintained. ‘These actions will continue and we call on citizens not to pay the tolls,’ said Nikos Noulas, a member of the committee that is helping to organize the protests which have been taking place over the last few weeks.
