Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis (l) smiles at two children during a visit yesterday to the Ark of the World, a charity for abandoned children and single mothers in Kolonos, near the city center. The Ark, which is run by Father Antonios (r) provides meals and helps children and mothers with their education. ‘Father Antonios and his associates are the true heroes in this effort, battling for abandoned children and single mothers 365 days a year, and not us, who remember them a few times a year,’ said Kaklamanis who oversaw the delivery of white goods, furniture and clothes donated by the City of Athens.
