Buses to start rolling from new terminus

Several months behind schedule, a major bus terminus will begin operating as of Monday at Nomismatokopeio metro station in northeastern Athens, it was announced yesterday. Nine bus routes will start at the Line 3 metro station instead of Ethniki Amyna station (406, 407, 308, 125, 303, 304, 305, 316 and 315). Lines 416, 418 and 404, which currently start at Katehaki station, will instead set out from Ethniki Amyna. Lines 419 and G5, which link the suburb of Holargos with central Athens, are to be scrapped but two new routes, 409 and 413, which will travel in a loop between Papagou, Ethniki Amyna and Katehaki, will start operating. Transport authorities believe that the creation of the bus terminus at Nomismatokopeio, which takes its name from the nearby National Mint, will increase the number of commuters using the metro station by 15,000 a day.
