Lone robbers stage armed raids in center
Lone robbers staged two daring armed raids in different parts of the city center yesterday, both managing to elude arrest and flee with undetermined sums. One of the gunmen burst into the busy branch of Hellenic Post in Syntagma Square at 1.30 p.m. and threatened staff into emptying the contents of their cash registers into a sack. The culprit then fled on a motorcycle. Earlier in the day, police reported another robbery at a branch of ATEbank in the district of Aghios Panteleimonas near central Athens. The robber fled on foot following the raid, which took place shortly after 8 a.m. before the branch had opened to the public. A third robbery yesterday, at around 10.30 a.m. in the northern district of Menidi, was carried out by two gunmen. There had been no reports of arrests by late yesterday.
