Ahead of strike, civil servants reassured
Athenians pass a poster announcing today’s 24-hour strike by private and public sector workers. The government yesterday sought to clarify Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos’s comments which appeared to cast doubt on the permanence of some public servants’ jobs. Government spokesman Giorgos Petalotis said Pangalos meant that when someone in the public service retires, it is not certain his replacement will also have a job for life.
