Baby dies after hospital circuit

A 1-year-old boy with gastroenteritis died in Thessaloniki’s Ippokrateio Hospital late Wednesday after spending several weeks at three other hospitals where he allegedly received no medical attention. The infant was admitted to a hospital in Kozani two weeks after suffering an allergic reaction to a hepatitis jab. As that hospital’s pediatric clinic had closed down last November due to a lack of staff, the infant’s parents took him to another hospital in nearby Ptolemaida. There was no pediatric clinic there either, so they took him to a hospital in Veria. Doctors there diagnosed the baby with gastroenteritis but allegedly failed to offer any treatment, so he was taken to a special ailments hospital in Thessaloniki. After a delay of several hours, the baby reportedly started turning blue. He was immediately taken by ambulance to the Ippokrateio where doctors put him on a life-support machine. The infant died late Wednesday of multiple organ failure.
