Deadly armed gang intercepted

Police have arrested seven of the eight alleged members of a gang they believe conducted a series of armed robberies in Athens, including one which resulted in the murder of the 62-year-old brother of a Pro-Po betting shop owner. According to officers, the gang carried out 21 armed robberies over the past four months and was wanted for five attempted murders. The seven alleged members that have been arrested are aged between 17 and 24. Police believe that the gang conducted five armed raids before that on the Pro-Po store in Patissia on March 29 during which the 62-year-old man was shot dead. Members of the gang are also alleged to have mugged residents of the central Athens neighborhood of Exarchia. The seven suspects were found to be in the possession of one handgun and small amounts of drugs, police said.
