Family gave away pay-TV

A father, his wife and his son, as well as another man, have been arrested in Athens on charges of illegally broadcasting programs from Nova TV’s subscription package for free over the Internet, police said yesterday. The four suspects, whose identity was not revealed, allegedly set up a system to stream on the Web in real time Nova’s sports programs, for which the satellite TV company has exclusive rights. Monthly subscription for Nova costs between 29 and 57 euros and it is estimated that the company lost up to 37 million euros in potential annual earnings, as the live streamed sports events were watched by 59,000 people. Last year, another three people were arrested in Athens for selling up to 100,000 devices that were able to break Nova’s encryption codes and allow viewers to watch programs for free. The trio were selling the decoders for 300 euros each.
