Reds go two points clear

Olympiakos emerged from the weekend’s soccer action with a two-point lead over rival Panathinaikos after the Piraeus club beat Atromitos 2-1 at home yesterday, as the Greens were held to a 0-0 draw at lowly Asteras Tripolis. After 14 games, Olympiakos has 33 points and Panathinaikos 31. The Reds had to play much of the game with 10 men but had a 2-0 lead to hold onto thanks to a penalty from David Fuster and a clinical finish from Kevin Mirallas. Atromitos only managed a consolation goal in the final minutes. Panathinaikos was unimpressive against Asteras, which has yet to win at home this season. The same could not be said of AEK, which thrashed bottom side Larissa 4-0 and is now fourth on 23 points. PAOK, which beat Iraklis 1-0 in the Thessaloniki derby, is third. Aris is in fifth place after drawing with Olympiakos Volou on Saturday. The other results yesterday were Xanthi 1 – Kavala 1, Ergotelis 3 – Kerkyra 0 and Panserraikos 1 – Panionios 1.
