Police put brake on drugs outfit

More than 100 people, many of them from the entertainment business, are to be questioned in connection to the arrest of eight people in northeastern Athens who allegedly ran a major drug smuggling and dealing ring, police said yesterday. Officers raided a car dealership in Aghia Paraskevi and arrested a 41-year-old Greek Canadian, a Frenchman and four Greeks on suspicion that they used the business as a front to sell large quantities of cocaine, ecstasy pills and hydroponic cannabis. The Greek Canadian is thought to be the gang’s ringleader. The drugs were allegedly hidden in spare parts that were imported from the USA and the Netherlands. The suspect also rented parking garages in Aghia Paraskevi, Voula and Halandri, where officers believe some of the drug trades took place. Some 250,000 euros in cash was found during police raids and the gang members are alleged to have owned more than 2 million euros’ worth of stocks.
