Irenaios I enthroned

The new Greek Orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem, Irenaios I, was enthroned at a ceremony in Jordan on Tuesday, as part of a wider celebration following his enthronement in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulcher last month. Irenaios arrived in Amman earlier yesterday and had talks with King Abdullah II at the royal palace. Thousands of people, including schoolchildren, attended yesterday’s ceremony in Amman. Today, Prime Minister Costas Simitis will discuss the matter with Environment, Town Planning, and Public Works Minister Costas Laliotis, who is responsible for the project that is being handled by the state-owned company Ktimatologio SA. On Friday, the PM is to meet visiting EU regional policy commissioner Michel Barnier, under whose jurisdiction the project’s funding comes.
