Papandreou visits ‘ground zero’
Foreign Minister George Papandreou visited the ruins of the World Trade Center in New York on Wednesday afternoon in the company of Archbishop Demetrios. The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church of America held a memorial service among the ruins. He has visited the site on three other occasions since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Papandreou assured US officials, members of Congress, Greek Americans and journalists of Greece’s unwavering support in the fight against terrorism. The taxi driver, whom police traced a few days later, explained that the woman had also got out of the taxi and as the two were late in returning, he drove off, leaving their luggage on the sidewalk.
