BELOYIANNIS GROUP: Interior Minister Giorgios Athanasiadis-Novas said that following a request by the United Democratic Left (EDA), the general security force has been ordered to allow the lawyers of the 42 communist prisoners from the Beloyiannis group to communicate with their clients to prepare their defense. The order was also given to facilitate associations involved in the welfare of communist prisoners. SENTENCES COMMUTED: An appeals court yesterday concluded the trial of the Piraeus defense force. A military court had earlier sentenced G. Pantazis, T. Mouratidis, G. Lykiardopoulos and G. Margakis to death, and Ioanna Tzovartzi, Stella Douraiou, Theofanis Koumoutsis and P. Loukidis to life sentences. The appeals court commuted the sentence of Pantazis to 16 years’ imprisonment, Maragakis and Koumoutsis to 14 years, and Mouratidis, Lykiardopoulos and Douraiou to 10 years. Tzovartzi and Loukidis were acquitted.
