Wildfire on Rhodes prompts emergency response
A wildfire broke out on Monday in a mixed-use rural area near the village of Maritsa, located on the west coast of the eastern Aegean island of Rhodes.
An emergency alert was issued via 112, urging visitors and residents to remain on standby and be prepared for potential evacuation.
The blaze was being tackled by 60 firefighters and two ground teams, with 20 fire trucks on the scene. Their efforts were supported by three water-dropping aircraft and three helicopters.
Heavy machinery and water tankers from local municipalities have also been mobilized, while an unspecified number of volunteers are assisting in the operation.
