Greek flood deaths surge over past decade
Flood-related deaths in Greece have surged significantly over the past decade, according to data from the National Observatory of Athens (meteo.gr).
The data shows that since 1980, Greece has experienced 70 deadly floods, resulting in 190 fatalities. Alarmingly, half of these deaths occurred in the last decade, highlighting a troubling increase in flood-related casualties.
Around 60% of these deaths occurred during the autumn months (September, October, and November), and the majority of the victims (60%) were over the age of 45.
