Gudjohnsen off the mark as AEK beats Xanthi

Eidur Gudjohnsen scored his first Super League goal for AEK on Wednesday as the Yellows beat Xanthi in a seven-goal thriller.

The match was severely affected by strong winds in northern Greece, which played havoc with corners, free-kicks and goalkeepers? attempts to clear their lines.

Gudjohnsen scored AEK?s third, in the 76th minute and set up the fourth for substitute Viktor Klonaridis.

Xanthi had opened the scoring through Leite Marcelinho on 14 minutes but Fabian Vargas equalised 10 minutes later.

Nikos Liberopoulos made it 2-1 in the 39th minute and set AEK on their way to victory.

Leite Marcelinho reduced the score to 3-2 in the 85th minute but Marko Markovski?s injury time goal was a mere consolation.

AEK?s second win in less than a week means that the Yellows are second in the Super League with six points.
