FIRST WOMEN CANDIDATES: Thessaloniki, 2 – Today applications by the first women candidates for election were submitted to the authorities here for the parliamentary by-elections on January 18. The candidates are Eleni Skoura, of the Greek Rally Party, Virginia Zanna for the Center Party and the independent candidates Loula Kostopoulou and Meropi Vassilikou. OUR FIGHTERS IN KOREA: King Pavlos has addressed the following New Year message to the troops in Korea: «To the officers, non-commissioned officers and troops of the Greek military forces in Korea. Queen Frederiki and I wish you a happy new year and a speedy and victorious return to your homes. I am convinced that during the coming year, you will continue to honor your country and will distinguish yourselves among our Allies in the struggle against tyranny. God bless your sacred weapons. Pavlos II.» STATUE OF QUEEN FREDERIKI: Yesterday afternoon, the National Defense Minister and Undersecretary Messrs Kanellopoulos and Dimaratos and the Commander of the Chiefs of Staff and Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gens. Kitrilakis and Tsigounis, left for Konitsa to attend the unveiling of a statue of Queen Frederiki. ANTIQUITIES: Statues, inscriptions and an ancient temple have been excavated near Markopoulo.
