ONASSIS: New York, 16 – A former migrant from Greece, Aristotle Onassis, who has become a multi-millionaire shipowner, confirmed that as of this morning he has become the virtual owner of the Monte Carlo casino. Mr Onassis, who is in New York, explained to the press that he had tried unsuccessfully two years earlier to rent one of the building’s annexes (the former winter sports club of Monte Carlo, which had been closed since 1930), in order to move his offices there. As a result, he decided to acquire the shares of the casino little by little, and thereby secure control of the business. He achieved this, as he said, within the space of two years. Mr Onassis, who at the age of 16 emigrated to Argentina and then to the US, today estimates his fortune at about $300 million. This does not include the value of the various buildings he owns in six different countries. Onassis’s main business is whale hunting. His whale fleet consists of 19 ships including two supply vessels, a helicopter and a floating factory with a hospital, swimming pool and mvie theater. Mr Onassis never plays roulette, nor does he plans to in future. JEAN RACINE IS CONVICTED: Yesterday afternoon the trial was held of those arrested at a house at 63 Kolonos Street. Among the accused who were sentenced to 25 days’ imprisonment were (…) Jean Racine (…).
