FIRST WOMAN IN PARLIAMENT: The success of Greek Rally candidate Mrs Eleni Skoura, who won a parliamentary seat in the Thessaloniki by-election last Sunday, was triumphant proof of the fact that the people who supported Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos’s movement and brought it to power remain a united force and, in fact, have increased their strength in the two months that the Greek Rally party has been governing the country. COMMUNIST TRIAL I: The trial of the secret «reception committee» of an illegal Communist party organization began in Athens yesterday (…). The accused are Dimitris Bekaris, G. Bolias or Pavlos Zamanos, Andreas Foskaridis, P. Magoulas, Maria Voutsina and K. Karousos. COMMUNIST TRIAL II: London, 19 – According to reports from Sofia, the trial began today of 10 Bulgarian members of an espionage and conspiracy group. PAPAGOS CALLS ON MITROPOULOS: Greece’s cultural world is overjoyed at the news that the prime minister, Field Marshal Papagos, has invited the famous Greek maestro, Mr Dimitris Mitropoulos, to undertake the reorganization and direction of the country’s National Opera (…). However, the prevailing impression is that the famous musician will probably not accept the position.
