This time, Europe must not wait for the crisis to reach its shores to react.

It must not watch the Afghan tragedy uninvolved, leaving the border states to shoulder the predictable “aftershocks” of the country’s collapse on their own.

European governments should have understood it by now: In the end, inactivity and isolation cost more to everyone involved.
