BANK MERGERS: Yesterday the government’s decision to merge the National Bank and the Bank of Athens took another decisive step forward. Shareholders in the Bank of Athens were invited to a general assembly on February 28 to approve the merger. By decision of the government’s coordinating committee, a bill is to be tabled in Parliament today to settle issues arising from the merger. EPEK-EDA: Yesterday afternoon the EPEK party deputies met for three hours to discuss a proposal by the United Democratic Left (EDA) regarding cooperation between democratic parties. EPEK’s central committee issued an announcement saying that any cooperation between EPEK and EDA was «unacceptable.» BREAD RATIONING OVER: It has been announced that as of next Sunday, February 1, 1953, the rationing of bread will be abolished. The price of white bread has been set at 4,200 drachmas and of wholemeal at 3,200 drachmas per oka (about 1.2 kilos). KALOMIRIS: On Monday, February 9, at 7.30 p.m. at Parnassos Hall there will be a concert of works by Mr Manolis Kalomiris, inspired by the poetry of Costis Palamas. The program includes five songs from «State and Loneliness» for voice and piano, the song cycle «A Few Words» from «Evening Fire» for harp, clarinet and voice, the «Quatrains» for voice and viola and 10 songs for voice and piano.
