Europe’s ‘lost values’

Your recent commentary (March 17) against the US disarmament of Saddam’s Iraq bemoans the loss of «values» that a US-led war would represent. Is the value being referred to the policy of appeasement? The Franco-German-led policy of appeasement to Saddam may offer a hope of peace, but sacrifices security and justice. The uncompromising nature of appeasement advocates is leading to the destruction of the UN as an effective international organ for security, and is fracturing the EU along ideological lines. America lost 3,000 citizens from an abominable act of terrorism. It will not lose the 3,001st citizen to mollify European appeasement advocates. SAMMY THOMAS, New York.
