Irreparable damage

A great deal of damage can be caused in a society when lawlessness takes root and especially when it is exacerbated by groups encouraging fellow citizens not to pay toll charges on the national highway or to ride on buses without validating their tickets.

A society that cannot respect even the most rudimentary rules, where those who break laws are allowed to get away with it unpunished, is well on the slippery slope toward decay.

Political parties and mass-media outlets that have voiced their support for the nonpayment ?movement? are simply jumping on the bandwagon in their quest for a handful of votes or a few more viewers. But the damage they are causing is irreparable.

If we all decided suddenly to stop paying for the public services that we enjoy, they would simply cease to exist because the Greek state is broke and there is no way that it could afford to pay for new roads or provide funds for equally cash-strapped public transportation companies.
