Playing with the numbers

The last paragraph in your story on Greek hockey banking on Indian experience (April 3) is wrong. There are no 7 million Greeks overseas. The figures provided by SAE are not census ones. The last census in America, in 2001, from the bureau of statistics, claimed 921,000 Greek Americans. The census in Australia in 2001 showed only 375,000 Greek Australians. All this information can be obtained through the Internet or through the Bureau of Statistics in each of these countries. The SAE Council of Overseas Greeks, for political purposes, uses estimations rather than census figures. This in itself warrants a good story. GEORGE SALAMOURAS, Australian Greek Welfare, Melbourne.
