A lack of real leadership

A deep feeling of disappointment is beginning to descend both at home and abroad over developments in Greek politics. The public had expected that during this difficult time, the leaders of PASOK and New Democracy would agree on forming a coalition government that would be headed by a new, commonly accepted prime minister.

Unfortunately, that did not happen, proving the political system cannot get over its hang-ups and rise to the occasion during these demanding times. An extremely negative image of the inabilities of Greek politicians is beginning to develop abroad.

Prime Minister George Papandreou fails to breed confidence in his ability to govern and appears to be hostage to the internal balances within PASOK. Yesterday?s developments only increased the concern felt by our international partners, who are beginning to wonder whether Greek politicians are oblivious to danger and whether this country deserves to be saved.

Never before in Greece?s history has there been such a lack of leadership.
