The moment of truth

The Lucas Papademos tripartite coalition government has had one particularly positive repercussion. None of the three leaders will repeat the mistake committed by George Papandreou before and right after the 2009 elections. Back then, PASOK?s leader claimed, falsely as it turned out, he was unaware of the economy?s true state.

Papandreou, Antonis Samaras and Giorgos Karatzaferis are fully aware of country?s desperate financial situation, along with the terms and stifling timetable imposed by our partners and creditors. They know what needs approval and implementation in the next few weeks, and how tangible and clear the danger of the country exiting the eurozone is. There is no more room left for promises of the ?there will be no cuts? kind.

The PM has to clearly and bluntly explain the facts and dilemmas. The moment of truth has arrived and there is no room for ambiguities, illusions and lies.
