Drawing lessons from history

The March 25 Independence Day anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the nation?s direction as well as to reinforce the sense of national confidence and optimism. This is a country which has gone through adventures, disasters, war and civil strife. On several occasions in the past, even during the fight for national independence, we were engulfed, at the worst possible time, in civil clashes for which the country had to pay a hefty price.

Let?s go back and take a good look at our history and draw the right conclusions. In other words, let?s be certain that given the right leadership with strong popular support, we will overcome the current crisis as well.

At the same time, let?s avoid the kind of national division and chaos that the powers of destruction and blind violence are feverishly pursuing without showing any respect for or interest in this country?s traditions and future.
