Dealing with illegal migrants

The unchecked influx of unregistered immigrants poses a huge challenge for Greek society as it has developed into a threat to public safety and, in some ways, for our democracy too.

The problem is the result of chronic inaction and criminal mistakes by successive administrations, Socialist as well as conservative, which failed to provide adequate protection for the country?s borders.

Clamping down on illegal immigration is the exclusive responsibility of the state and of its legitimate representatives.

No one has the legal, the moral or the political right to take law into his own hands. We must all be concerned about the recent assaults — verbal as well as physical — against the immigrants who live among us.

It should be noted that many of these people are legal residents here, they work hard for a living and respect the country?s laws.

The state must finally do its job, protect the borders, deport illegals, and protect legal aliens.
