Key posts for cronies, again

No one can claim that the government made a good impression Wednesday with its announcements regarding the appointment of general secretaries for the country?s ministries.

Greece is at an exceptionally critical point and it must have the best people appointed to key positions in the government if it has any chance of survival.

Unfortunately, the list of names announced is a collection of has-been politicians and failed party cadres and cronies, who are being assigned to extremely important decision-making positions.

The Greek people expected a lot more from the new government, desiring first and foremost a severing of the ties between the state apparatus and the interests of individual political parties.

Wednesday?s announcement instead confirmed the accusations of skeptics who believe that the Greek political system will never change the way it goes about its business, even at such an important time, when the country?s very future is at stake.
