Making things a bit easier

The magnitude and complexity of Greece?s financial problems is underscored by the list of people that the country?s prime minister, Antonis Samaras, is scheduled to meet between August 22 and early September. These include Eurogroup chief Jean-Claude Juncker, German Chancellor Angla Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and the head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde.

Over the same period, troika inspectors are expected to prepare and deliver their evaluation report on Greece?s fiscal adjustment program. Our foreign lenders have made it clear that the report will determine Greece?s future in the eurozone.

Greek taxpayers, who are weary of being told to make sacrifices, want to believe that Greece?s foreign peers mean the country well. Sure, we have made mistakes and oversights, but our foreign peers are not free of blame. Hopefully they will now acknowledge the efforts that have been made and make things a bit easier for Greeks.
