No more attacks on minorities

The isolated — yet increasingly frequent — attacks carried out by far-right extremists against Muslim Greeks in Thrace, northeastern Greece, are completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated by society or by the political leadership.

Assaults launched by boneheaded individuals whose objective is to stir up trouble and discord can easily lead to even greater tension being created between different groups within society, as well as between citizens and the state, and must be quashed immediately by the authorities.

Over the past few decades Greece has succeeded in striking a healthy balance with the country?s Muslim minority, and the quality of this relationship has earned the Greek state a great deal of credibility in its relationships with its foreign partners.

It?s easy to see that the fanatical extremists who believe that they have a right to take the law into their own hands and who launch attacks against minorities and immigrants can cause serious damage to the nation.
