Exports are a key to growth

Greeks are noted for their business acumen and their ability to survive under extremely adverse conditions and in a highly competitive environment.

And with good reason, as the above has been demonstrated again and again thanks to the excellent performance by Greeks in the global shipping industry.

Now the people of Greece have to prove themselves once more in a new field: exports.

The first thing that Greek companies need to do is to adopt an outward-looking strategy, and the early signs in this respect are very positive, particularly in the food sector.

Only by increasing its exports significantly can the country narrow its current account deficit, which is also a key factor behind Greece’s mammoth debt.

This is a wager that can and must be won if the country is to get back on the path to growth.
