OPINION

If not in 2013, then in 2014

There is little to suggest that the new year will be a happy one for most Greeks given the trials and tribulations that the country is going through and especially the hardship being suffered by so many.

The new year does, however, promise to bring changes to the country that will define its future in the long term. Its politicians and its citizens are being called upon to persevere in the face of adversity and to take great leaps forward. Those who believe that Greece will inevitably go back to the state of affairs that pushed it to the brink of disaster in the first place are wrong.

The truth is that with the renewed support of our creditors, and with the implementation of necessary structural reforms, Greece still has a chance to to hope, even though this chance may be its last. While we are not expecting any miracles, if we grit our teeth and keep moving forward we may see that wishes for a good year in 2014 will come true.
