List affair shows collapse of institutions
The whole mess with the Lagarde list goes to show just how rotten Greece’s institutions have become. None of the people who handled the list in a succession of different phases did so in a professional manner or in a way that shows respect for the institutions. In contrast, they all seem to have handled this sensitive information almost dismissively, as though it were theirs to do with as they pleased.
Now questions are beginning to arise regarding the way the judicial authorities are conducting the investigation into the handling of the list. Surely there must be some mutually acceptable way to examine all the different memory sticks floating about and to find the electronic trail of the list.
The people demand a full investigation into every aspect of the case that will be carried out in a professional and orderly fashion and lead to clear conclusions.
